Dr. Clarence Levar Pennywell was born in Shreveport, LA on March 7, 1925. He accepted Christ and was baptized on June 6, 1934. At age 16, Rev. Pennywell confessed his calling and preached his first sermon on August 10, 1941 to the Shiloh Baptist Church congregation.

Rev. Pennywell was called to be the Shepherd of Mount Paran in 1947. For 62 years, he faithfully served the members of this church. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Pennywell led and taught the Paranite congregation. He was affiliated with the National Baptist Convention of America, Inc., the Baptist Mission & Education State Convention, the Union District Association, and the Baptist Ministers’ Fellowship.

Pastor Pennywell departed this life on November 24, 2010. The members of Mount Paran are thankful to God for our time with Pastor Pennywell and his dedicated love and service to us.
The Paranite family is also thankful to God for Sis. Zerline Pennywell who labored beside Pastor Pennywell for many years with her trademark humor and grace.

Zerline Henderson was born on April 23, 1923 in Ida, Louisiana. She grew up and was educated in Kiblah, Arkansas and St. Louis, Missouri. She was converted at an early age and was baptized by Rev. B. D. Mason in Kiblah.
Pastor and Sister Pennywell were married on February 29, 1952. On April 25, 1954, Sis. Pennywell united with Mount Paran. She served in several departments, including the choir, faithfully. Sister Pennywell departed this life on May 1, 2009.
